I suppose some use the word differently, but to me, it's the opposite of domination. I quoted Google because its definition seemed pretty close to mine, but really I should have deleted the first occurrence of "control"; dominion has nothing to do with control.
A few years ago I learned of the evangelical term ‘Dominionism.’ It is the heinous use of ‘religion’ to justify all acts in service of Christian rule. The power inside the word ‘dominion’ is that it centers on the belief that one person or one entity has ultimate authority over all others. The bogus assertion that trump was delivered by god to save us comes from adherents to the Dominionism playbook. Apparently trump chooses to believe these charlatans who place their hands on him as they feign sainthood. Or, he is able to elevate his authority by allowing it. Regardless of how this man — this freak of manhood — came to power, he is an evil that must be extinguished by any means. He will end the world if he isn’t stopped.

Issue I have always had with the Bible is God gave Dominion over the earth. So we raped her. However, dominion, or stewardship, brings us in alignment with our native and pre Christian and Christian better teachings.
