Aristotelian views of 'eudaimonia' (happiness or the good life) renders either a life of 'praxis' tied to the political realm and the exercise of the moral virtues or a life of 'theoria' the intellectual life tied to the exercise of the intellectual virtues. In America today, you remind us that we have forsaken both.
One of the key differences from the 1930s and today is that today's ruling elites are facing multiple impending cruises: thermodynamic, demographic, environmental, ecological and finally the crisis of resource depletion. The current administration is operating under the illusion of separation and from a place of fear: they no longer see themselves as part of a greater whole, a human family living in kinship with the Natural world, and they are terrified of losing power and privilege and wealth due to the impending crises listed above. A regime staring into the abyss is always at its most dangerous, it lashes out like a cornered beast, it will do whatever it must to extract wealth, control the population and prolong its reign. And as you say, will the ruling elites of the rest of the world follow the US regime's lead down this soulless dystopian path?
